Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you access or use Verify Open Badge.

LAST UPDATED · AUGUST 3, 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of Verify Open Badge (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service

Verify Open Badge is a technical tool that checks the structure and validation signals of Open Badge and verifiable credential files or URLs. A validation result is an automated technical assessment based on the information available at the time of the request. It is not legal, compliance, security, employment, educational, or certification advice, and it does not guarantee that a credential will be accepted by an issuer, recipient, platform, or other third party.

Your responsibilities

You may use the Service only in compliance with applicable law and these Terms. You are responsible for the files, URLs, and other information you submit, including obtaining all permissions, consents, and rights needed to submit them for validation. Do not submit material that is unlawful, infringes another person’s rights, or contains sensitive information unless you are authorised to do so.

Acceptable use

You must not use, or attempt to use, the Service to:

  • interfere with, disrupt, overload, or bypass the Service or its security controls;
  • probe, scan, or test a system or network without authorisation;
  • submit malicious code, harmful files, or requests intended to abuse remote services;
  • use automated means that impose an unreasonable load on the Service; or
  • violate any applicable law or the rights of another person.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend, limit, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We do not promise that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. You are responsible for keeping copies of your own files and records.

Third-party resources

The Service may access URLs and other resources provided or referenced during a validation. We do not control those third-party resources and are not responsible for their availability, content, security, or practices. Your use of a third-party resource may be subject to that party’s own terms and privacy policy.

Intellectual property

The Service, its design, software, and content are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.

Disclaimers and liability

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and availability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to your use of the Service.

Privacy

Our processing of information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when they were most recently revised. By continuing to use the Service after revised Terms are published, you agree to the revised Terms. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

Contact

Questions about these Terms should be directed to the operator of the Service using the contact details made available on the website from which you accessed the Service.
